As the tenure of the current legislative assembly in Gujarat expires in January 2018, Gujarat Assembly Election for the 14th assembly will be held in December 2017. The Election Commission has announced a two-phase Gujarat election date for the year 2017. The first phase of Gujarat polls will be held on Dec 09, 2017 and the second phase of Gujarat Polls will be held on Dec 14, 2017. As announced by the Election Commission of India, the counting of votes for the Gujarat Assembly Election 2017 will be held on Dec 18, 2017, which is also the date for the counting of votes for Himachal Pradesh legislative assembly elections 2017.

Administrative structure

Gujarat Legislative Assembly consists of 182 members. Out of 182 constituencies 13 are reserved for scheduled castes and 27 for scheduled tribes. The Assembly has a speaker who presides over the meetings. The Chief Minister is the head of the Legislature. The Governor is appointed by the President of India.
